What does the entrance fee include?
A standard ticket gets you into the museum on your chosen date and time slot. The official terms add three conditions: one entry per ticket, no re-entry after you leave, and no refunds or transfers (GEM ticketing site).
That one-entry rule matters if you plan to pop out for lunch. Eat inside the complex, or plan your day so you leave once.
What’s on show for that price? The museum displays more than 24,000 objects (Wikipedia), including over 4,500 of Tutankhamun’s treasures shown together (AFP via Khaleej Times, 2025). Read more in our Tutankhamun at the Grand Egyptian Museum guide.
Who qualifies for a discounted ticket?
The reduced EGP 920 rate covers Arab and foreign students and children. The museum says a valid ID is required to verify eligibility for free or discounted admission (GEM ticketing site). Bring your student card and your passport.
Living in Egypt? Foreign residents have their own, cheaper category: EGP 920 for adults and EGP 460 for students and children. Expect to show proof of residence.
Are there extra costs inside the museum?
Most visitors pay nothing beyond the ticket. Personal photos are free: Personal photos and videos are allowed, except in designated areas of the Tutankhamun Galleries. No flash, tripods, selfie sticks, drones or live streaming. (GEM ticketing site). Large bags go into the cloakroom: Bags and backpacks larger than 40 × 40 cm must go in the cloakroom.

How do you pay for Grand Egyptian Museum tickets?
You pay online at the end of the booking on tickets.gem.eg, after choosing your date, slot and ticket category (Egypt Independent, October 2026). Have your card ready and check that the page address is the official one before you enter any card details.
Full booking steps are in our Grand Egyptian Museum tickets guide.
Is a tour with the ticket included better value?
On price alone, booking the ticket yourself is always cheaper. A tour costs more because it adds a guide, transport and someone else handling the booking. Whether that’s worth it depends on how much you value context and a stress-free day.

A simple way to compare: add the ticket price to the cost of a return ride from your hotel, then compare that total with the tour price. Remember to check whether the tour really includes the museum ticket.
