Sorted by price, lowest first. Prices from the booking platform; the price at checkout is the one that counts.

Visitors arriving at the entrance of the Grand Egyptian Museum

The Grand Egyptian Museum’s rules are short but strict: large bags go in the cloakroom, flash and tripods are banned, outside food isn’t allowed, and you can’t re-enter on the same ticket. Every rule below comes from the official ticket website (GEM ticketing site, checked October 2026).

In short

  • Bags over 40 × 40 cm go in the cloakroom.
  • Photos are fine, but not in designated areas of the Tutankhamun Galleries; no flash or tripods.
  • No outside food; small water bottles only.
  • One entry per ticket.

Can you bring bags, backpacks or luggage?

Bags and backpacks larger than 40 × 40 cm must go in the cloakroom. A small day bag is fine. If you’re coming straight from the airport or a hotel checkout, leave big luggage elsewhere, or check whether the cloakroom can take it.

Can you take photos and film inside?

Personal photos and videos are allowed, except in designated areas of the Tutankhamun Galleries. No flash, tripods, selfie sticks, drones or live streaming. Commercial filming needs prior written approval and fees.

Sketching with pencils only, in sketchbooks up to 45 × 60 cm.

Is there a dress code?

“Appropriate attire” — no detailed dress code is published. Light, modest clothing and comfortable shoes are a sensible choice: you will walk a lot.

Can you eat, drink or smoke?

No outside food or drink; only small water bottles in the galleries. There are cafés and restaurants inside the complex (Voyaged Magazine, 2026).

Smoking only in designated outdoor areas.

What ID do you need, and can you re-enter?

  • One entry per ticket; no re-entry after you leave.
  • Your slot sets when you enter: tickets are valid only for the date and time slot you choose; the slot sets when you enter, not how long you stay; one entry per ticket, no re-entry; non-refundable and non-transferable.
  • Bring a valid photo ID such as your passport. The museum requires ID to check eligibility for discounted or free tickets, and as a deposit for audio devices.

All the booking details are in our tickets guide.
