Khufu's ancient boat in the Grand Egyptian Museum, a reminder of how central the Nile was to ancient Egypt

You can end a Grand Egyptian Museum day on the Nile, either on a felucca, the traditional sailboat, or on a dinner cruise. Several tours combine the museum and the pyramids with a sail; in October 2026 they started from about US$9 per person on Viator. Here’s what each type includes and what to check.

In short

  • Felucca tours add a short sail after the museum and the pyramids.
  • Dinner cruises add an evening on the river with a buffet and a show.
  • From about US$9 (Viator, October 2026); entry tickets often in an option.
  • On “felucca or bazaar” tours, choose the felucca option.

Felucca or dinner cruise?

Felucca: a quiet sail of about half an hour to an hour, usually in the late afternoon. It suits families and anyone who wants a calm end to the day.

Dinner cruise: a bigger boat in the evening, with a buffet and entertainment. One tour we checked ends with a 2-hour Nile dinner cruise after the GEM and the pyramids.

Both are in the Book this visit section above, sorted by price.

What should you check before booking?

  1. Entry tickets: the museum (EGP 1,830 from 1 Nov 2026) and the Giza plateau (EGP 700) are often only in a higher option.
  2. “Felucca or bazaar”: several listings let you choose a felucca sail or a visit to Khan el-Khalili, the historic bazaar. If the river is why you booked, pick the felucca.
  3. Timing: the museum galleries open 9:00–18:00 (Sun, Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri) and 9:00–21:00 (Wed & Sat); plan the boat for after your visit.
  4. Drinks on dinner cruises: usually extra.

Why add the Nile to a museum day?

The river is everywhere in the museum, starting with Khufu’s boat: Khufu’s boat, about 4,600 years old, in its own hall; a second boat is being restored in a live lab (Wikipedia). Seeing it in the morning and sailing on the Nile in the evening is a nice way to connect the two.
