Grand Egyptian Museum Trip from Sharm El Sheikh (2026)

Sharm is a long way from Giza, and most trips from the Sinai add papyrus or perfume shop stops. What we found, and how to book one without them.

Sorted by price, lowest first. Prices from the booking platform; the price at checkout is the one that counts.

The pyramids of Giza, usually combined with the Grand Egyptian Museum on trips from Sharm El Sheikh

Yes, you can reach the Grand Egyptian Museum from Sharm El Sheikh, by plane in about 16 to 18 hours or by bus in about 24. But almost every Sharm trip we checked in October 2026 included a papyrus, perfume or essential-oil shop stop. Below is the one option we found without them, and how to handle the others.

In short

  • By plane: about 16–18 hours. By bus: about 24 hours (Viator and GetYourGuide listings, October 2026).
  • Most Sharm trips we checked include shop stops.
  • Our pick is a 2-day trip with entry fees and a night near the pyramids.
  • Choose the Grand Egyptian Museum option for Tutankhamun.

Plane or bus from Sharm El Sheikh?

It’s a trade between money and hours. Flight day trips include return flights to Cairo and take about 16 to 18 hours, hotel to hotel. Bus trips drive along the Gulf of Suez and take about 24 hours, so most of the day is road time. In October 2026, bus trips started well under US$100, and flight trips around US$300 or more.

Either way, the middle of the day is spent in Giza with a guide: the museum, the pyramids and the Sphinx. The plateau is open 08:00–16:00 (Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities).

Why we list so few Sharm trips

We read the itineraries of more than a dozen Sharm trips on Viator and GetYourGuide. Nearly all of them include a stop at a papyrus “museum”, a perfume or essential-oil “factory”, a bazaar, or a short shopping stop in Giza. These stops eat into museum time and come with a sales pitch, so we don’t list those trips.

Booking one anyway? It can still be a good day. Two habits help:

  1. Tell the operator in writing that you don’t want shop visits.
  2. Check the museum option: choose the Grand Egyptian Museum, not the old Egyptian Museum in Tahrir.

More on shop stops in our scams guide.

The 2-day option

Our pick avoids the shop stops and the 24-hour day: two days by bus, entry fees for the pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum, an Egyptologist, and a night in an apartment with a pyramid view. If you can spare the extra night, it’s the more relaxed way to see Tutankhamun’s treasures from Sharm.

Which museum does the trip visit?

Check carefully. Many Sharm trips offer either the Grand Egyptian Museum or the older Egyptian Museum on Tahrir Square, depending on the option. Tutankhamun’s treasures are now at the GEM in Giza (AFP via Khaleej Times, 2025). Our GEM vs Egyptian Museum comparison explains what each one shows.

Are entry fees included?

It depends on the trip and the option. Budget EGP 1,830 per foreign adult for the museum from 1 November 2026 (Egypt Independent), and EGP 700 for the Giza plateau (Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities), if your trip leaves them out.

If you can stay a night in Giza on your own, our museum and pyramids plan and Giza-based tours give you far more choice.

Questions people ask

Can you visit the Grand Egyptian Museum from Sharm El Sheikh in one day?

Yes. Day trips by plane take about 16 to 18 hours from hotel pickup to return, and bus trips about 24 hours. Both usually combine the museum with the Pyramids and the Sphinx (Viator and GetYourGuide listings, October 2026).

Do Sharm El Sheikh trips to Cairo include shopping stops?

Most of the ones we checked in October 2026 did: papyrus, perfume or essential-oil shops, or a short shopping stop in Giza. If you book one, tell the operator upfront that you don't want shop visits.

Does the Sharm trip go to the Grand Egyptian Museum or the old Egyptian Museum?

Many trips let you choose either. Tutankhamun's collection is now at the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza, so pick the GEM option if he's the reason you're going.

How much does the museum ticket cost on top of the trip?

Check the listing: some trips include entry fees, others only in a higher option. From 1 November 2026, the museum costs EGP 1,830 per foreign adult, and the Giza plateau EGP 700.
