The Grand Egyptian Museum's facade and obelisk in Giza, the destination of day trips from Hurghada

Yes, you can see the Grand Egyptian Museum on a day trip from Hurghada. Organised trips drive you to Giza and back in one very long day, usually with the Pyramids and the Sphinx included. On Viator and GetYourGuide in October 2026, road trips lasted about 16 to 19 hours and started from about US$68 per person; flight trips started from about US$245.

In short

  • By road, day trips take about 16–19 hours, hotel pickup included (Viator and GetYourGuide, October 2026).
  • From about US$68 in a small group; about US$230 private; flights from about US$245.
  • Check the museum entry: often only in the all-inclusive option.
  • Make sure it’s the Grand Egyptian Museum, not only Tahrir.

How does a day trip from Hurghada work?

You’re picked up at your hotel very early, driven to Giza, and brought back late at night. The road trips we checked in October 2026 ran about 16 to 19 hours in total. Most of that is road time, so the museum and the pyramids share the hours in the middle of the day. Prefer less time on the road? Some trips fly to Cairo and back instead.

A typical day looks like this:

  1. Before dawn: hotel pickup in Hurghada.
  2. Late morning: arrive in Giza and visit the Grand Egyptian Museum with your guide.
  3. Afternoon: the Pyramids and the Sphinx. The plateau is open 08:00–16:00 (Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities).
  4. Night: drive back to Hurghada.

Which Hurghada trips include the Grand Egyptian Museum?

Read the itinerary closely. Some Hurghada trips visit the older Egyptian Museum on Tahrir Square instead, or let you choose one or the other. Tutankhamun’s collection is now at the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza (AFP via Khaleej Times, 2025), so if he’s the reason you’re going, pick a trip that names the GEM.

All the trips we compared are in the Book this visit section above, sorted by price.

We left out several popular Hurghada trips because their itineraries include papyrus, perfume or “workshop” stops. Shopping stops come up again and again in Cairo tour reviews; see our scams guide.

Is the museum ticket included?

Not always. Some of the trips above include entry fees; others include the GEM entry only with the right option, and the card says which. From 1 November 2026, the museum ticket costs EGP 1,830 per foreign adult, and the Giza plateau EGP 700 (Egypt Independent; Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities).

Add both to any price that excludes them before you compare. All categories are in our ticket price guide.

Private or shared from Hurghada?

On a day this long, comfort matters. A private car lets you stop when you need to and decide how long to spend at the museum. In October 2026, the private trip we checked cost about US$230 per person and included entry fees and lunch, against about US$68 for a small-group trip.

Is a day trip from Hurghada worth it?

If the GEM and the Pyramids are must-sees and you’re only staying on the Red Sea, yes. You’ll be tired, but you’ll have seen Tutankhamun’s treasures and the last standing wonder of the ancient world in one day.

If you can, consider a night in Giza instead. It turns a race into two relaxed half-days. Our museum and pyramids day plan shows how to split them, and all Grand Egyptian Museum tours start from Cairo and Giza hotels.
